School Philosophy

Philosophy of Buckner Elementary School

The faculty and administration of Buckner Elementary School believe that the goal of American public education is to develop literate, productive, responsible American citizens who retain curiosity and a love of learning. We acknowledge that our school should help foster an understanding of the individual’s responsibility to self and others. In addition, we help students realize that while all people do not have equal abilities, they do have equal value as human beings.

We believe:

  • The responsibility of the school is to educate the entire child and provide opportunities to develop each child’s emotional and physical skills as well as his or her academic abilities. Therefore, while we provide a rigorous academic program, we also allow children the freedom to be children.
  • Before a child can learn, he or she needs to feel secure and loved. Therefore, one of our primary duties is to provide our students with a safe, caring, and structured environment.
  • Parents are the most important influence in a child’s education, and we expect parents to be responsible partners with us in guiding their child through the elementary learning program.
  • In the elementary school years, a student forms his or her attitude toward school. If the elementary school can foster a sense of selfesteem, security, and acceptance of one’s capabilities and potential, then the student has a better chance of coping with the stresses of the teen years.
  • All children can learn, and we must help each child learn to the best of his or her ability. We must foster within each student a love of learning. Our goal is to create responsible, life-long learners.
